Client Master List (CML)
What it is
A Client Master List (CML) is a statement from your broker or depository participant (DP). It confirms the details on your demat account: name, address, bank, PAN, and the DP and client IDs. Registrars ask for it to confirm that the demat account where the shares will go really is yours, with matching details. You can usually get it from your broker in a day or two.
When you need it
You’re converting paper shares to demat and the registrar needs to confirm your account.
You’re filing an IEPF claim, where shares are credited electronically.
The registrar has found a mismatch between your folio and your demat account.
When you don’t
You don’t have a demat account yet. Open one first, then get the CML.
You’re only claiming unpaid dividends into a bank account.
